Aerial Photography
I am currently working on a series of Aerial Photographs. I have spent the last fifteen months researching the aera of Kite Aerial Photography (KAP), exploring different equipment and techniques for taking aerial photographs and finally learning how to fly and control kites in various wind conditions. The challenage has been to find the right kites to fly and lift my rig and camera in the many different wind conditions that we have in Ireland.
I am interested in photographing aerial scenes that document people going about their everyday activities. Whether they are going for a walk, playing a match or going to work, Aerial Photography enables me to photograph scenes from a height so that the focus of attention shifts from that of the individual to that of the collective. By photographing everyday scenes from an aerial perspective the actions of the individual become one small part of a larger system. The movements and actions of people in a place at specific point in time are documented and the resulting photographs tell a story about life in that place and time.
